How to use SUStee: the simple way to stop overwatering your plants

More pot plants die from too much water than too little. The trouble is, you can't see what's happening at the roots. SUStee shows you, with one colour change.

Step 1: Pick the right size. Choose small, medium or large to match your pot. The stick should reach the root zone, where water matters most.

Step 2: Push it into the soil. Place SUStee between the stem and the edge of the pot, pushing it down into the root zone. Water the plant well.

Step 3: Wait for blue. Once the soil around the roots is moist, the indicator turns blue. It can take a little while to change the first time, so give it time.

Step 4: Water when it turns white. White means the root zone has dried out and your plant is ready for a drink. Water until it turns blue again, then leave it alone.

Tips for South African homes

  • In summer and in heated rooms, expect it to turn white faster. Check it every couple of days.
  • In winter, many plants rest and need far less water. SUStee stops you watering out of habit.
  • Succulents and cacti like to stay dry for longer. Wait a few days after it turns white before watering.
  • Use one SUStee per pot. Different plants, pots and spots dry out at different speeds.
